008_lil’ twinkle stars

The city is developing fast. Constructions in Dubai are pretty much 24-hour-a-day process. It is common to see empty concrete carcasses fully lit up with neon lights. Together with the construction cranes on top, they appear like a troop of alien from the outer space.

hey,
didnt get to see you in singapore.
next time maybe.
how was tokyo? how is tetsu??
i was at ceren's wedding over the wkend - met camillo, juanita, gerrard, camilla, and lord stephen read! a pity no one from my class was there...

i was in dubai last month actually. did a one day tour on the tourist bus. it amazes me, or should i say, shock me. the city is an eyesore - with a blunt display of power. a wide spread of skyscrapers, condominiums and hotels - i really dunno what there is to do in dubai and i couldnt find any local fabric and history to it. my friend said that the old town was a duplicate of history as they initally knocked the old town down but realised that they had stripped dubai's history away, and so rebuilt everything again!what a joke! the only beauty to me is probably the bare concrete structures, cladded with scaffolding. once they get finished, i reckon they will be like humans with a very bad fashion taste! i was also pretty disgusted by the use of unsustainable materials, and the amount of CO2 it is emitting. over here in europe, sustainability is a big issue in construction, and i was surprised when back in singapore, it is being ignored!
so what's your project in dubai?
